Which of these would you get? This is my first winter driving my 2005 530. Kind of worried cause I live in central NY where we get tons of snow and ice. Ive done research but reviews are everywhere! Whats your experience? I heard the Blizzaks are good but wear out quickly. BMW dealership told me the Dunlop m3 but I heard in a review that the traction control always comes on with those. Theres good reviews on the Dunlop DS 2 and a great price on tire rack. Any help would be appreciated! :help:

Sam, I was going to link you to this thread to see if it would help you out but then I realized that you were the one who started the thread as well. Although I don't know why you're abandoning that thread, my best advice to you for choosing the right tire for your needs is to call the Tire Rack and talk to one of their specialists. I'm pretty sure they don't work off of any commissions, etc. so they'll basically help you figure out what tire will be best for your needs based on your location and personal preferences.

Obviously the tires I choose for a Pittsburgh winter may not be the tire you'd choose for a winter in Syracuse...

I have a friend that works for tirerack, and he told me that they favor Blizzak is every situation cause the company "hooks them up" so they always favor them. I am trying to get the opinions of the actual drivers of the e60.

I have had Dunlop M2 and M3 tires for the past 4 years. They are a great tire for where I live.

Not too much snow, usually just clear roads with icy pavement, and not too cold. These tires, and the Blizzak LM-22 I had on another car, are perfect for this.

If I lived somewhere where there was snow on the roads all winter long, then these would not be my first choice. A softer winter tire live the X-ICE or the softest Blizzak would be it. However, these will wear out faster on dry roads, which is a byproduct of how well they work with ice and snow.

It really depends on your winter climate. These are large heavy cars, so they will wear out soft tread faster. However, if you have to replace them every 3 years vs. every 4 or 5, is it really that big of a deal or cost?

I think after tons of research I am going to go with the Nokian Hakkapeliitta RSi. I have yet to see a bad review on it and it seems like it works good with traction control which my 530i has. Whoever has these can you comment on them for me?

Also can is it possible to get 17" steel rims? Tirerack said they dont have any in 17. Anyone know of anyplace?

Nokian Winther tires are good.
I have just got my new car and it came with Michelin X-Ice North.(studded)
Where I live there is a law to have Winther tires on during Dec trough end of March.
I dont know anything about the Michelins but had Nokian tires on my old car and they were good.

Do like the birds do, and fly south for the winter. :thumbsup:

...id suggest Michelin Alpin PA2 XLs (BMWs recommendation for the M6 & M5), they are toppps in every category and worked very well last winter :thumbsup:
