Yesterday I was driving in front of new Alfa Romeo Mito. I've noticed that it has muuuch brighter lights then my 5er. New car, new technology, ok...
He also has temp around 4300k. What are currently best xenon bulbs on the market with maximum of 5000k and best lumen output for the e60. d2s models pre LCI.

First of all it's really hard to measure brightness just by looking at the headlights, his headlight could be poorly aimed which will give you false impression of brighter headlights. Secondly, brightness also depend on the quality of projectors, unfortunately BMW projectors are not the best ones, Lexus LS430 and Honda S2000 projectors are slightly better. Lastly, light output of xenon bulbs decreases over time. So if you want to get little more lumens just swap your old D2S bulbs with the pair of new ones. If you want to get significantly more (15-20%) get 55W xenon kit.

How much difference is there between new and old bulbs? Say bulbs that are 5 year old with 90k?

1. it matters where the headlights are "looking", when you are "measuring" brightness

2. you may need to buy a lens cleaning kit for your headlights - after a few years the covers get dirty and pitted and so forth.

3. from what I've seen, 6000k is THE bulb to get.

4. finally, it is so weird you've posted this thread - I was just thinking this morning "how come no one ever posted a thread about what the best replacement bulbs are for our xenons" and here you are
