I'm getting about 17.5mpg average..

judging from all your comments i guess 23 mph is not too bad than.

given such low returns how can bmw justify there official figures

round town my 530i (new N52 engine) is averaging 29.1 MPG and that is with the A/C on auto all the time. On Motorway runs its more like 34 MPG. so i am well pleased with the new 3.0i engine and am hoping mpg will only get better as it gets more miles under its belt.

this is a BIG improvement over my previous 2003 3.0i petrol model which ran the previous non-valvetronic engine.
