Yep. That's the one. I don't go there as often these days even though I still have a '07.
Yep, that was me on the MDX forum as well. I had an '06 Touring in Nighthawk Black. Loved it.

I tried to check in there the other day- it's been a while since I posted there, and the website didn't come up.

I tried .org, .net, .com- nothing...

I have an 04 and been a member there since that year. What year did the new one came out?

See if Acura uses body codes, it would be easier to know which model we're talking about.

I think you are reading too much into it and there is just a large amount of differences between the 5 series of different generations so we have to be more specific when we say 'the engine on my 5 series doesnt work anymore'.. well for starters, which 5 series?

Proof that Acura owners and BMW owners appreciate some of the same things...

Small world indeed-

Nice pic- thanks for sharing, and for the website info.

It just makes it easier parts wise. Instead of having to say year make and model all the time. Especially if there was a mid year shift or if you have a 3 series the convertible model usually hangs around a year longer then the sedans. Next thning you'll be asked is if you have LCI or Pre LCI.

One of the reasons is that it saves a lot of time in conversations. Model series changeovers don't always occur in the same model years in all countries, or in all configurations.

For instance, if I reference a 2006 330i, you cannot tell if I'm referring to an E46 (old chassis) or an E90 (new chassis) because both models existed in the 2006 model year.

Additionally, BMW oftentimes introduces new designs in the spring. In the US, those cars often take the following model year whereas in Europe it might not.

So, when someone tells me about the 530i (or worse, their "500 series"), I haven't a clue what they're talking about. If they say their E39, I know so much more.

I am relatively new to the BMW Reich, but I have appreciated the cars from a distance for many years now.

What I haven't quite been able to understand, is what makes BMW owners describe their cars by the factory codes for them, as opposed to the way in which most other enthusiasts love/appreciate their vehicles.

I've been a member of F150online.com for nearly a decade now- and trust me; there are some F-150 fanatics on that website. According to them, any purchase outside of an F-150 is a waste of money, kinda like the sentiment on this board- but, I digress.

What is it about the BMW fan, that makes them refer to their cars as E60, E61, E46, F10, etc- as opposed to 5**, 3**, M*, etc...

Is calling the vehicle by its given name, somehow less demonstrative of one's appreciation for it? A friend of mine has a 2003 530i, and when I e-mailed him and told him I had a 5 series, the first thing he asked me was, "Did you get the E39 or the E60?" I replied,? I got the 2004 525i". He replied, "Oh, you got the E60- we have the E39 version".

Not that there's anything wrong with it. It's just funny to me. No other enthusiast site that I've been a member of, have I witnessed this type of in-depth vehicular knowledge or affection. It's kinda like getting on a boat and getting "nautical"- as Joe Pesci said, "port, starboard, etc..." LOL.

What gives?

I'll tell you what irritates me are people (in the US) who refer to their cars in the German vernacular, such as "5-er" or "3-er" instead of the proper English names, "5 Series" or "3 Series".

It's almost as annoying as folks who insist on keeping their expired ED plates attached behind their US license plates. I think it's just arrogant.
