I just started noticing this thing thats on my gauges,iam down to one bar after a while of driving... WHat is this? does anyone kown and y am I on the last bar?

That is the "temperature gauge." It starts around 4500 RPM when the car is cold. It is recommended that you don't rev above the marks as the car warms up.

i thought the e60 doesnt have temp gauges? is it normal to have one bar under normal driving conditions?

It is not a traditional temperature gauge. It is a guide to tell you how much to limit the rpms until the engine warms up. I usually have 4 or 5 bars showing when my car is at operating temperature.

That's why he put quote marks around the term. BMW believes that's all you need to know regarding your engine temp -- where NOT to rev to. As your engine warms up the bars approach the maximum possible rev, so yes, it makes sense that you could have one bar left when your engine is warm enough. (This is covered in your manual located in the glove compartment ...)

I noticed that the new 7 series brought back the traditional 4 gages and expect the same for the next 5. While I appreciate the simplicity of the two gages in front of me, I'd prefer more information especially when one considers these are considered the "ultimate driving machines." :cool:

yeah i noticed it one time when i started my engine, looked pretty cool. anyways you can find the reference in your manual.

I find it a fascinating alternative to a standard temperature gauge! :cool:

I think this temp gauge feature is not available in the LCI models anymore.
