But I thought somone here said that the 535d is a lot faster than the 545 when accelerating from say 70mph to 100mph or even 50mph to 80mph
Is that not true? Huge amounts of TQ to pull it and get it accelerating faster...

I was thinking Kickdown... most optimized gear for each car to be in, in order to accelerate the fastest... not necessarily one gear.
So if the 545 is best in 2nd then use second and if the 535d is best in 3rd then use that... I'm ccurious to know under best cercumstances would the 535d be faster than the 545 in moving accleration.

It's one gear. In general 50 to 70 times etc are typically measured with the car staying in the same gear. The 545 for example is a lot quicker 50 to 70 with kickdown than the official same gear spec time.

Agree...
The differences are very slight in both ways. But the main characteristic of the diesel that i ADORE it is the tuning characteristics. With only an ecu remap it can reach 350bhp. That's almost reaching for the 550i. 80bhp power increse and the torque of a monster. Other than that i like the petrol more for it's refinement and it's sound but i hate it for it's higher fuel consumption especially if u'r a city driver most of the time like me.
PS: i would adore a race in the city from X to Y due to the traffic conditions (of course not in rush hours, more like a sunday drive) with a 545i.
