Anyone know why the rear passenger floor is wet after I went thru a rain recently? I went thru a bit of high water say 4 inches off the ground say for only 3 seconds at the side of the road where the drains overflowed up onto the road and figured the water rolled up past the threshold door seal or some how got in to the under body seals at body joints. I did read the most recent Roundel Mag and there was a good article in it about the front passenger floor getting water in from the heater box broken seal on a 325 model because the heater box had a clogged drain plug. Thanks to every one on the E 60 Forum. Happy motoring in a True drivers car. Dan

Other members have reported clogged sunroof drains to be the culprit, although the water may have been present in other locations. A site search should turn up something. Good luck. I found this:

I had the same problem (rear floor getting wet) on my E39 5 Series. It ended up being a seal inside the rear doors that the dealership said was probably not repaired properly when a window regulator had been worked on in the past. I think it was roughly $250 for each side and the problem was solved. Sorry, I forget the exact name of the part and I no longer have the car or the receipts for the repair. When I described the issue to the Service Advisor, they knew immediately what was the cause.

GOOD LUCK!

+1. Both of my previous e39's had this issue. On both I simply had to pull the door panel and reattach the vapor barrier. Use some RTV sealant and DIY it yourself as long as your barrier isn't torn.
