My car makes a weird ticking sound from the front of the car. I've tooken it to the dealer but the tech can't hear it, saying the exhaust is too loud, but I hear it just fine.

Whats the noise from? and is it covered by the dealership?

It must be the Timing Belt!

Could this be the same problem you have?

Which engine do you have?

Does the ticking happen all the time, or just under light/moderate throttle?

On 04 545 I had ticking from front right side of engine compartment. Turned out there was an SIB on the AC compressor pulley. Dealer replaced compressor under warranty and the ticking is gone. Check it out.

Regarding this bulletin... I have an '04 530i with sports package and it seems that sometimes when I unlock and open the doors, I hear this ticking that sounds like it is coming from the center dash or maybe from the glove box (6 Disc changer) area. I have NO idea what it could be and I don't think it is "Normal Operation" although I cannot be sure. I just bought the car so I don't know if it was doing this when new. I'm not sure what that bulletin means, so I don't know if the battery needs to be replaced or not. 3 or 4 years seems a little early for a new battery though. Anyone know if this is something that I should tell the dealer about before I run out of warranty?

Do you get the ticking if you rev the engine when in neutral?
