Hey, guys, first post here. I've been lurking on the forum, just reading some stuff, but I've finally gone and registered.
I've been trying to figure out an issue with my car that I've been having for a while now. I have lost all operation in the steering column, as well as both front windows, and the windshield wipers have defaulted to ON; all normal indications of a bad SGM. I've heard that it sets a code for an internal capacitor designed to allow the air bags to deploy in the event of power loss from the battery, but that code isn't present in my car. The only code I'm finding is:
932A - ZGM/SGM-ZGM: BYTEFLIGHT communication error
Byteflight, as far as I've been able to deduce, is just the BMW name for the CAN communications bus for the car. I haven't been able to reliably find any information regarding this, and I'm completely stumped at this point as to what could cause a communications error in a single module, past an internal hardware failure. I initially thought it was a coding error or something, but as I'm able to access the module and pull codes from it, I feel as though the coding issue shouldn't be a problem. Perhaps I'm wrong?
Just FYI, I'm an accomplished certified Master technician. My experience has been mostly with Chrysler vehicles, and by extension some Mercedes Benz. I'm very mechanically inclined, and I like to think I'm pretty good with electronics, so don't spare me any technical jargon.
Thanks!
