When I use my key, my radio does not display the RDS text, However, when my wife uses her key, the radio does display RDS text. Strange. I don't know which software version I have, (7/04 production), but I had assumed it was fairly recent since the posts here indicate that RDS is disabled in newer versions. Now i am thinking that there must be a way to turn it on and off. Any ideas?

(I do not have NAV or the enhanced stereo)

With the 7 series you can turn RDS on and off through the secret iDrive menu. I know there is something similar in the 5 and the instuctions are posed here for cars without Nav, but the menus are not in plain english and I don't remember anyone posting how do turn RDS on or off.

mandviwa: The same thing happened to my car after the car's software was upgraded to version 12(cant remember if it was 12.1.2 or 12.12). Per BMW this is fixed when the software is upgraded to version 13.2. You then will be able to turn it on or off. I have the service bulletin relating to it.

As GotBMW posted, software version 12 disabled the RDS and it got fixed in a later software upgrade!

Regarding the 7series, the 5series has the same hidden menu, but I haven't checked yet if you can turn the RDS off or not!

Instructions for the E65 (7series) are below:

I just got my car back from the dealer on friday. I got my Software updated to 13.2.2.... I lost my RDS which sucks, because I really liked it. Yesterday I dropped by my dealer to ask if they can get it back on for me. The Service Manager said that with this new update, there is no option for me to Turn it On & Off. Its gone forever. Unless a future update brings the RDS back... I looked though all of IDrive to see if it might be in there. Its not There.....

What Menu are you going into, to turn it on and off?

Thanks
