Weird noise when starting up in the morning

Hi all,
Lately (maybe because it's been cold) at morning startup my 2004 525i starts up with a "chaaaaaaa-ring" sound as opposed to the normal "chaa-ring". I'm using Mobil 1 5w 30 and the temps have been anywhere from 34 - 50 degrees when this happens. Any cause for concern? Thanks.

I think it is just because it is cold out. I was at the coast over the summer and it got cold over night, and I started up my car the next day, and it sounded odd. My parents said it was because its cold.

like most bmws, my car sounds like ass when it starts, but a few minutes when i am driving down the road, the exhuast note and turbos sound awsome

Yeah, when I first start mine and it's cold out (it was 14* F this morning), it's all clattery and noisy. You can hear the lifters ticking, it's very noisy. After 4 or 5 minutes when the oil warms up nice, it's the nice quiet ride that you'd expect from a bimmer.
