I had this "leak" in the battery compartment fixed under CPO. I was very, very lucky nothing happened but my dealer checked the batter one day and found it sitting in 5" of water! I nearly fainted.

No. Dealer did not fix. But, was less than $500 for all they did, so I did it to my other E60 as a pre-emptive measure. I believe it included new trunk seal, new rear window seal, and moving the system up or something like that. I have heard others say they drilled holes in bottom of battery box for water drain.

Now you all know my hell for the past 10 months....
I'm on leak #5 for the sun roof, make sure they MOVE EVERY Electrical component out of the tire well and up to the sides of the trunk. I think standard the PCM is down there... Not something you want getting wet since it can fry every thing else hooked up to it.
The first trip for 6" of h20 back there ( same day I got it , should have learned then, tropical storm) was almost $4000 in parts and 25 days of labor, thank god it was still under warranty, this trip is 29 days and another Diversity Module ( #2), due to it being located high on the top of the load deck under the load floor it is still subjected to water from leaks.

Just FYI. I am planning to relocate the Parking Distance Control and the Tire Pressure Monitor System unit to the right wheel well as noted in the SIB mentioned. That doesn?t look very difficult to perform. I have a Comfort Access aerial antenna that has to stay at the bottom of the spare wheel well which I will try to water proof the connector. I?m also getting a $10 water leak monitor from Home Depot and placing it at the bottom of the spare wheel well for early warning of water leaks.
I don?t have any water leaks but I tried to get the dealer to relocate the items under manufacturer warranty but they couldn?t.

Update:
So my car is out of warranty and the dealer wouldn't pay for anything. BUT, the only thing I had under the spare was RDC control unit. The dealer charged me $93.75 for the RDC control unit, $244 for 2 hours of labor and around $45 for shop supplies and pin connectors (5 due to corrosion)
Total was $392. They also relocated the RDC to the side. Not bad.
