My first post, but not first BMW;
2005 530i just purchased used 77,500 mi two days ago and didn't start today. Jumped it, drove to BMW Dallas for new batt (or so I thought), but had water in trunk. They are fixing it of course ($1500 so far) but my post is for everyone else with the E60 (I have another also). Here is the service bulletin:

110000 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Feb 04, 2009 - BMW VEHICLE: VARIOUS ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS CAUSED BY WATER INGRESS. WATER INGRESS INTO THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT MAY CAUSE VARIOUS ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS OR FAULTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE MPM (MICRO POWER MODULE); PDC (PARK DISTANCE CONTROL); M-ASK

After fixing this 530, I will take in my 525 and have it 'fixed' to it cannot happen again...on my dime.

I just realized I forgot to include the attachment referenced in the service bulletin I posted above. It's now been added...

Great. Thanks for the info. I'm going to take it to the dealer.

So, if we're not having any problems, should we take our cars in anyway?

forever5, did the dealer cover all expenses? Is there any authorization they need to get from BMW NA? Just wondering if the dealer tell me to go take a hike? I have water in my trunk and need the RDC replaced.

I purchased my 08 550i used in mid August 09. 1 week after ownership the car acted up and I limped it in to the dealer. They found a couple of inches of water in the trunk (we had heavy rain storms right after purchasing it) and some modules in the trunk got fried.The dealership did a water pressure test but claimed there was no leak and suggested that I may have bumped my key fob causing the my trunk to accidentally pop open and someone walking by could have closed it. Thinking this was possible as it being a new car to me I claimed the $2000 repair on my insurance. I do not know how to tell if they relocated any modules and there is not a sticker on my tool box. Not sure what i should do about this now as its been a year and no leaks since. I dont think they did a smoke test but was told a special team was being called in to test the car? Does anyone know if the mentioned vacuum leak is only when driving or must there a bad seal to warrant the fix - my seal is fine according to dealer. Sorry for the long post but this has bothered me since I bought the car.

...In addition there are 3 sets of wires that are located behind the spare on the back of the trunk that disappear in to the plastic trim on the trunk.
