My '08 535i is out of the 4yr / 50K warranty. I currently have the wastegate (WG) rattle really bad. Bulletin SI B11 13 07 addresses the rattle first with a software update...and if the rattle remains...replace the WGs.
A few years back, when my car was under warranty, I had the software update that the bulletin refers to. At that time I didn't have any rattle...but they did the software update to try and fix a "skipping/misfiring" issue...which ultimately ended up being injectors.
Now that actually I have the rattle...should BMW replace the WGs per the new bulletin SI B01 02 12...which issues a 8yr/2K mile warranty on the WGs. Has anybody had WGs replaced under the 8 yr/82K mile warranty?

I have the same car and just got it back from the dealer with brand new turbos. They told me that you cannot replace just the waste gate you have to replace the whole turbo assembly. Thank God the owener prior to me bought the car CPO, the over $5000 bill was picked up by BMW.
I bought the car about a year and a half ago with 72,000 miles and since then noticed a slight amount of noise from the waste gate. It progressively got worse over time to the point it triggered a message under hard acceleration. I hope this helps some, good luck.

Thanks for the reponse. I'm really wanting to know if BMW will cover the cost of fixing something (wastegate noise) that has service bulletin issued on it. I guess I'm gonna have to take it to the dealer and see what they say.
I know that if a recall is issued...they will fix it free. But my question is...if they issue a service bulletin for an issue I am having on my car (out of warranty)...will they fix it for free.

The bullletin (SI B01 02 12) actually says that the turbos are covered if the failure "is caused by a defect of the turbocharger's wastegate." So I'm not so sure they will replace the wastegates and/or turbos...simply because they are making a LOT of noise...that's kinda what I'm trying to determine.

Mine pulled a 30FF code, then I heard the loud rattles on cold start up.
Brought her in Monday, got a call today with news of the approval of replacement turbos. Be done Monday next week.
Got a loaner coming to me as well.
BTW I just bought the car last week and havent even got my title/plates yet LOL
