I think it has a lot to do with how the car was driven prior. My car has 162K miles (08 535xi) and I've never walnut blasted. That being said, I drive mostly long highway miles, I use SeaFoam somewhat reguarly, and have never had a problem. If the car was used by a commuter, similar to what you describe, then I'd have it done...assuming you are experiencing problems with it. If you are not then I'd save the $300 for a future service, as your driving will likely result in needing it eventually.

My 08 535i had just over 100K when I had walnut blasting done. It was a commuter car, incredible gunk in there that had to be scraped out before walnut blasting would have any effect. I thought the car would be transformed and a slight stumble on heavy acceleration would be remedied, but in fact the car went on half power the first time I tried to really boot it. Took it back to BMW, problem was diagnosed as glaze deposits on 2 sensors in the head that monitor oil quality, which limit the engine to half-power if the oil appears too thick. That fix restored the power and the car feels stronger than it ever has before.
I anticipated that walnut shell blasting would also improve fuel economy, but in fact its been going the other way. I guess I booting it all the time now!
The bill with new gaskets for the transmission and differential and a few other things (like $104 wiper blades - WTF???) was $4500.
