My Ride: Soon to be 2005 5-series
I have a dilemma: Should I place an order for a 530i with SMG (delivery in early March) or take delivery of a 530i with Steptronic (delivery at the end of January). Both with same options.
I would really like to wait for the SMG but, my lease is up in mid-Feburay and would be without a car for a few weeks (car pool with wife).
Could any owners of 2005 530i with SMG comment whether its worth the wait for me or should I just go for the 530i with Step?
Thanks,
Leonard.

The wait is short compared to how long you will drive the car. From what SMG owners on this board say, you should order and wait until March.
Whichever you choose, I hope you enjoy your selection.

If you leave a deposit on the new SMG, I am sure the dealer will work with you to extend your lease or put you in something else temporarily. My dealer has done that for me in the past while I waited on delivery.

Call whoever your lease is through (i.e. BMW Financial Services) directly and avoid the dealer. Ask them if they'll extend the lease for a month. Most will with no problem.
If that doesn't work, then try the dealer.

Is the 530i SMG with the new I-6 engine? If it is not and you are in a hurry for car, get the 545i.
