Ok so does everyone's voice command sound like the lady is sitting in the car while the navigation sounds like the lady is speaking softly from inside the boot....

Sure, its a 523i. I retrofitted the navigation which comes with voice control.

It's just that the navigation instructions sounds muffled and far off- like faded to the rear. But voice control prompts are loud and clear and surround.

I'm not sure about this: but I believe I can control the volume of my lady GPS speaker ONLY while she's talking. I have a little son and she would wake him up on a long trip we took so I did the obvious quick-jerk reaction and twisted the volume knob down. Then I realized she was too quiet and finally figured out what happened and got her volume up to quite loud by twisting the volume knob up just as she's speaking. You can of course get her to speak at any time by pressing the diamond button (one of them?) on the steering wheel (if you haven't edited that).

Hope this helps you.

Wow you are the best. Let me try that and let everyone know the results later. I have to get dressed to get to my car in this part of the world...

That's correct. On my car (with professional navigation), there are three volume controls. 1) radio, 2) voice control and 3) voice prompts for navigation. You change the volume for each while the that particular voice is speaking.

A few years ago there was a post on this forum of an article from BMW magazine on the actors who provided the voices. I can't find it. Does anyone have a copy? If I recall correctly, the woman who provided the navigation voice was named Marietta (or something like that). So my muttered response to voice prompts are "yes, Marietta", "got it Marietta", "$#)$* Marietta".

Cheers.

Thanks everyone! I did it. Indeed now each of those voices can be adjusted accordingly as and when they are speaking. Problem solved. =) Enjoying the clear loud voice now for both!!!

Cool that worked, glad I could help! It's funny how elegant and simple the answer was but it still wasn't obvious, trust me I remember complaining that I couldn't find a volume control for the NAV chick in the iDrive menu.

She definitely sounds like she's sitting on my lap Wait, i think I said that out loud... but anyway, as mentioned before, while she's talking turn the volume knob up and it should take care of it
