I haven't seen these posted before, so please forgive me if this has already been posted and also point me to the post! Anyway, I spent some time last night trying to get a list written up of all the voice commands the car recognizes, in English. The technique was part trial-and-error, but also using the Options command. It turns out that Options is screen-sensitive, i.e. if you're in Navigation, Options produces a different list than it does if iDrive is on Entertainment. For example, if you're in the main screen and say Navigation, it will take you to the Nav screen and then beep, expecting another command; just say Options again. For the most part, voice goes 2 levels down, but sometimes it goes three. The menu heirarchy is not really important; all the commands are recognized from anywhere in iDrive.
That said, here goes. If anyone finds more, please post them. I was thinking it's probably better to repeat the list as it's being added to so we've got a single-source list and people don't need to go through multiple posts to get the whole thing. Someone will need to fill in Communications, as I don't have a phone hooked in.
-Main Menu
-Navigation
-Entertainment
-Communications
-Climate (different from 'Climate Control')
-Information Menu/Info Menu (both the same result)
-Last Destinations (brings up list of last several nav destinations)
-Address Book (brings up Nav address book)
-Destination Input/New Destination (both the same)
-Car Data
-On Board Computer
-Trip Computer
-Stopwatch
-Choose Frequency (comes back with "Please say frequency")
-Frequency <freq.> (follow 'frequency' with the number, e.g. "Frequency 92.3")
-Station <number> (selects that preset number)
-FM
-AM
-All Stations
-Manual (provides manual tuning; does not turn Steptronic in to a stick shift!)
-CD (forgot to try CD Changer or CD <number>; this one is the in-dash CD)
-Communications
-BMW Assist
-Phone
-Front Passenger (climate settings for them; not an eject button!)
-Driver (again, climate...i.e. airflow distribution)
-Entertainment Settings (from iDrive (info) menu)
-Tone/Audio Settings (same thing)
-Display Settings
-Brightness
-Time (screen to set)
-Date (screen to set)
-Units (screen to set)
-Vehicle Settings
-Steering Wheel Buttons
-FTM
-PDC
-Door Locks (screen to set options)
-Light Settings/Lighting
-Service
-Service Requirements
-Check Control Messages
-BMW Service Settings
-Languages
-Cancel (cancels voice entry)
So far, that's it. That makes 45 commands so far. It wouldn't surprise me if s/w upgrades would add to this.
Thanks,
Sam

nice job guys, I think we should offer to re-write the user manual for this car for BMW.
Also, tips and tricks for the manual like boot/trunk tie down techniques, etc....

browellm, do you mean that pro-nav in the uk has voice recognition working, I get my car on 5th june and am hoping it will....perhaps wishful thinking?
The US guys got no manual but the voice commands work.
Go figure (as our American cousins would say!)

For us Yanks, I'll check and verify the items in browellm's manual that weren't in the above list. There were a few interesting ones, e.g. I want to see if Weather Band or WB works. Then, I'll repost an updated list here.

All set. I'll put the updated list in the next post, so it's self-sufficient. This thing is smarter than I thought. There are a few commands that will not be recognized unless you're in the right place and in 2 cases, the same command has two different meanings, sort-of. I found out that Nav can give you turn-by-turn directions via the route list voice command. I didn't know (and forgot to look when I was outside) if that command is available in a menu. It was pretty cool in that it told you which way you would have to go and how many miles before the next turn.
In a few cases, items from browellm's manual represented alternative commands to ones already listed. I added them where appropriate. These can be useful, I think, because if it has trouble understanding you, you can try one of the alternates.
In the list in the following post, I've indented commands under the command from which it's available, i.e. it's not accessible from everywhere, but rather only from within the related menu/screen.
Thanks,
Sam
