My Ride: 07' 550i sport; Sapphire Black/Auburn; sport package; steptronic; navigation with R.T.T.I.; heads up; cold weather package; Logic-7; BMW MOST ipod kit; Motorola V3 snap-in adapter; rear heated seats and rear shades; anthracite headliner; sirrius sat. radio; M-aero kit; OEM style 166 Wheels with 245/35-19 front and 285/30-19 rear Michelin PS2s.
I yell profanity at mine.
Seriously, it went from bad to worse. On day one it was cumbersome but accurate. But now after one year for some reason (maybe my new phone?) it just doesn't recognize names I speak from the phonebook about 60% of the time. The car is intelligent and fast. If I were to liken it to a clothing brand I say Prada. The voice command is overly polite and slow. Its like Brooks Brothers. I hope there is a more 'dynamic' future for this technology. Let Chris Bangle take a crack at it. Seriously!

My Ride: 2008 Carbon Black 550i w/Sport Package, Sport Automatic Transmission, Natural Brown Leather, NAV, Active Steering, Cold-Weather Package, Logic 7, iPod/USB Adapter. Build completed Sep , 2007.
I don't even try to use it on the phone book (most of the names there are hard to pronounce/recognize even for humans [in US], much less for Speech-to-Text systems, plus I'm sure my accent doesn't help).
I mostly use "Redial" (to get the list of last people dialed and then scroll from there), and Map <+ the orientation> (for example "Map, direction of travel").
When I had a cd changer I used to say CD <N>, Track <N> (for example "CD two, track five") or just "CD". However now that I have an iPod, I programmed one of the memory buttons for that, and in US there is a dedicated am/fm button, so I guess now I just use the "Map" command.
With all the shortcuts available to various functions (like detailed A/C settings from A/C knobs) and iDrive shortcuts) I find the voice system less and less useful. I think if it was faster and recognized things better I'd use it more.
I'd love to be able to use it for nav input, but...
