The voice command on my car understands me only like 60% of the time. I think i speak pretty clearly. It's pretty funny pronouncing names from the phone book too. It usually takes me 2 - 3 tries before it will dial a number correctly.

I don't really want to complain, since the option didn't cost me anything.. but is there a way to train it somehow?

No... it cannot be trained.

You can be trained, however. Listen to how the Voice Command says names, and try to duplicate it.

I agree with you, though... the Voice Recognition is sub-par. Mine works about 80% of the time... but it should be closer to 100% for a BMW.

It's not perfect but I've used other voice recognition systems and in some respects, the E60's works better.

A couple (maybe obvious) things to remember when using voice recognition -- keep all background noise to a minimum by closing windows, sunroof, etc.

One thing I've found is that the phonebook recognition is more accurate than the main system. Clearly it's a different technology since it's actually doing some kind of speech to text conversion.

I find it temperamental. A good test for me is setting parked car operation ventilation time. Sometimes it works flawlessly. Climate- activate time one-Please say the time-12:45-Did you say 12:45-Yes-Would you like to activate time 1? yes. Im done in 20 secs.

Sometimes it just takes me all over the place from phone menu to vehicle settings. Moody bastard.

Yet I have tried making a voice activated call in an ACURA RL. Its hopeless. Whats worse is that there is no I-drive to fall back on. You just cannot call.

In particular I hate to ask passengers in the car to shut up if I need to give a voive command. :'( Otherwise I look like an idiot unable to give the right one

The MB system in the S Class is worse.....

Since David Hasselhof is so big in Germany, you can see why BM, MB and others want us to talk to our cars... I do hope it doesnt end up with us talking the silly lines like in the TV series... "..it's now or never, E60.... I need turbo boost now.... pop the trunk... piece of cake.."

over and out

I agree with all the above. I find the only time voice command works reasonably well is if the car is not moving. I have complained to my dealer and hopefully something will be done with it is in for the 12 month check (June).

If it worked it would be great - now it is very frustating. It makes so many mistakes I'd say it works about 40% of the time.

Does 16.2 help this problem? I also heard that there is a different microphone being installed to help this problem.
