I have bigger tires in the back. I ordered a new wheel this weekend, it will be in on Thursday. Hopefully, this will take of the problem.

I've had 19's since I got the car but this noise that I'm hearing, I've never heard before, it's foreign to me. My fiance just told me I am crazy, hence that's why I am here to get feedback :-).

In regards to the Hunter road-force... the foreman at the service dept said that they use the Hunter machine and that the bent wheel balanced fine. But I don't really trust these mechanics at the dealerships because I already have had several bad experiences at 2 different dealerships. Basically, at times, I feel like I know more about BMW's more than the techs do sometimes. These techs don't really care about the ultimate driving machine because most of them don't pay the kind of money we pay to drive these machines. They're not in tune to these machines as we are. Anyways, enough ranting for tonight...
You are preaching to the choir, my friend! It wasn't until my 6th or 7th visit to the dealer this past Friday that I finally got hooked up with a real BMW mechanic, their Dinan specialist. If your new wheel doesn't solve your problem, ask your SA to have his best mechanic check over your car, assuming he has one. Good luck.

So I got my wheel on Thursday and took my 530i to the service dept. They installed the wheel and whoaaa the vibration is gone! BUT I still have that weird tire noise. After driving around town with the foreman all afternoon, he concluded that the tire is defective. So he's going to call Michelin on Monday to see how Michelin wants handle replacement of the defective tire.

Has anybody experienced defective Micheline PS2's?

Good luck getting a new tire! After BMW determined 2 of my Bridgestone RE050A's were out-of-round, I contacted Tire Rack. The only way Bridgestone will take the tires back is for me to take them to an authorized dealer, who then has to check that they still have at least 9/32" of tread on them....come NEW with 10/32"....and then they won't pay for return shipping. Then, Bridgestone said they have to do their own test on the tires before they decide whether to send me new ones. I have put about 2000 miles on these tires already, and I doubt they still have 9/32" of tread left. So, I said, "Screw that!" I am guessing that is exactly what they were hoping for, and they got it. Warranty....yeah right!

Well to sum up my little experience. The new wheel resolved the vibration that I was feeling in the vehicle. In regards to the defective tire, BMW called Michelin and Michelin told them to send the 2 front wheels to a local retailer so that they can swap the 2 front tires/wheels. If the noise was still there then they would allow the replacement of the tire. I also had the service dept double check the alignment job they performed because my car was still pulling to the right. The tire noise was still there after the swap, so they went ahead and considered the tire defective and replaced the tire.

So today I picked up my car and I would say the problem is about 95% fixed. The vibration is gone but I still hear very faint tire noise. Sometimes the tire sounds like an overinflated basketball, sometimes it sounds like it's tramlining like there's no tomorrow and sometimes it sounds like a muffled rattle. Again, this much much better than how it was originally and now you really have to pay attention to spot these noises. So I guess I can live with it.

But I guess I'm still left wondering... What corrected the problem? Was it the new tire they replaced, was it the correction of the alignment job they did or was it both? The service order indicates that they adjusted the front and rear axles... And what really aggrevates me is the fact that you have go through 4-6 visits to the service dept. and not to mention the time wasted (1 month in my case) before your problem gets somewhat fixed. BMW should really harp down on these franchised dealerships, they ruining BMW's reputation.

if the wheel is buckled, even a slight bit, it can make all the change at higher speeds, the wheel may need fixing, or total new wheel, ou will again have to have the wj=heels all aligned again, if do any of these,

This is only from my own experience, the state should be made to pay really, the roads around here are like canyons and pot holes everywere.

Good luck on the repair

I have heard that some others have had this same problem with the BMW tires making weird noises, often after 10,000 km.
One link that came up for me was when I was researching it was www.bmwtirenoise.com
I don't know if it helps or not but check it out if you have the chance.

This is an "older" thread but what the hell, I still have an issue...

Does anyone notice tire noise only when turning at slower speeds, like in a parking lot or around turns after a stop sign? When I had my 19" summer tires on, I noticed a real resonating hum as I'd turn in either direction at slow speeds. It would go away as soon as I'd turn back to straight. It was definitely coming from the tires, but I've never had a car sound like this. I would say it started at around 3000 miles or so...now have about 5000 on those.

Now, I put my winter OEM Conti 17's back on the car about a month ago, and the sound is gone. My summer tires are Bridgestone RE050A's. After I removed the 19's, I noticed they have a cupping, saw-tooth pattern on the outer edges only, both fronts and rears...can feel that uneven pattern when running my hand over the tread from rear to front. I have read that this means a tow-issue with the alignment?

So, I just had my car aligned this past Friday (for a different reason..my 6th at least since May), and the only issue was that the right front camber was way off. This was causing my car to pull right, but I don't think this was happening during my summer-tire-months, so who knows? I had no vibration with my 19's and the car was tracking straight.

I don't have run-flat 19's, but boy do they rumble and hum when I turn that wheel at around 10-15mph or so. Anyone else hear this only when turning with their larger wheels?
