Is Vibrating Stick Shift Normal in an E60?
Hello to those with a manual transmission,
Got an '08 535i and warranty is just about over. Been to the shop twice now in the past 2 weeks. Vehicle was vibrating and noisier than usual, stick had also been vibrating since day one, and there would occasionally be this fluttering sound (which I thought was coming from the vent). They said tire tread was low and alignment was needed, both of which, I declined. Few days later, I realized that when I touched the clutch slightly, this would reproduce the fluttering noise which would disappear when clutch was fully depressed. Subsequently, the fly wheel was replaced, however, stick shift is still vibrating when driving and even more so while idling. Is anyone else having the same issue with their stick? Is it considered normal to have some vibration? Any ideas why this could be happening? Previously had a '00 328i but stick was perfectly still. Just wondering should I continue to hound the dealership for a fix?
Thanks in advance.

I do not think this is normal. I do have some clutch chatter at times, but I have not noticed any vibration in the gear shift. Motor mounts maybe?

I did have some vibration in my stick prior to replacing my worn tires. They were out of balance and cupping on the front. Much better since I replaced the rubber...I also replace front control arm bushings at the same time as they were worn as well. So not sure which fix corrected the vibration.
You may want to have them check the fly wheel if you are still under warranty. Mine had too much play so they replaced it and assumed it would correct everything including the shifter but in the end, I think they forgot to test if it eliminated the stick vibration. I did mention the engine mount during the first visit but they didn't seem to take the stick vibration seriously. They insisted that it was only moderate and pretty much normal, though my previous 3 series had no stick vibration whatsoever. Guess I'll go back a third time to whine.

I have vibration only in third gear I feel it when I have hand on it and accelerate hard. other gears are fine no vibration. I have recently replaced clutch and trans mounts and I also wondering if this sounds normal?
