Thanks for this info, I wanted to order the leather topped controller, but I think I'll hold off and stick with the original.
If you have wood instead of cube aluminium trims, the leather topped controller is much better than the old one. At least looks less than a washing machine controller.

Yup I do and the Aluminium Cube is standard for M-Sport model. I prefer this one. It does match my black seats and the metal matches the aluminium.

It is also easier on the knuckles or finger-tips as i tend to bang on the controller

For those who have not seen the new controller wheel, here's mine:

PS. Sorry to hear of your problems. I too went through depressing start with mine and almost handed my keys back. But I kept faith and they fixed it. Hope yours will be fixed soon.
However I think that the best looking on aluminium cube as well as on aluminum brushed is the M5 i-drive controller. I have changed it on my MY2006 E61 and actually I am happy with the choice.

As said above, now i have my car back i do prefer the newer black topped controller & think it looks better against the Ali Cube trim & black leather than the original all silver one.

An M5 one is just blatant one-up-man-ship

That's just going too far. Next they'll be putting M5 wheels on an E60 Diesel

Happy with mine, but that M5 one does look nice. Got any closer/better photos of it?
