Perhaps, although the M5 i ordered last year i sold her slot for a nice wedge of cash (?6000) to another UK BMW dealer just prior to the specification required date. I do love the M5 but i can't ignore how impractical they are, having a fuel range of less than 200 miles & they have so much more software technology than my E60 which i'm not sure is a great thing. The new M5 however is on my perhaps list. Also on that list is a pre-order for the new Audi RS6 which is believed to be due early in 2007 & will have an M5 beating turbo or bi-turbo V10 producing somewhere between 550 & 600BHP (i got my name down for one of those over 2 years ago).

Ditching the RS6 i owned was all about economics. She was due to leave her warranty period in September this year & owning an RS6 out of warranty is not a good option. Also her running costs were vast, at around ?8K per annum just in consumables, then another ?4K in fuel plus the actaula cost of the car & depreciation. Had to be sensible & look to invest that money i was burning, into something more lucrative.

I'll get another mental motor within the next 2-3yrs, however the 535D is doing me proud & with DMS being re-applied tomorrow, i'll still be having some giggles when i'm driving.

Very true. However the DMS re-map does produce some great numbers

dont audi offer the equivalent of BMWFSH ? extra warranty for ??? i thought that all manufacturers in the uk do that. Anyways what i did when the m3 warranty expired was to take it out only for the weekend and for long journeys. I drive the diesel in the city center now, much more practical.

Out of interest what % of the original value of the RS6 did you get when you sold it ? i got 71% back for the m3 after 2.5 years and 8000miles

Also any idea if/when the RS4 will come with autobox/DSG ?

The extended warrany for an RS6 is over ?1500 per year & has some nasty exclusions as the RS6 is a fairly specialist car. Mine had a gearbox failure at 21K miles & although paid for under mfctrs warranty, it was a ?15K replacement & fit cost , so a little rich for my blood, hence why i did not fancy owning one out of warranty.

The car was ?62K list brand new. I paid ?54K for my 4 month old 4K miles example as it was the DP of Preston Audi's car & i sold it last month for ?41.5K. On that basis it looks like depreciation was not that bad, as i owned it for 2 years & it had nearly 30K miles on it when i sold the car. However i had spent ?14K modifying that car, so it then does not look very good. I'd not have got ?41.5K if the car had not been so heavily modified.

Not so sure as the the gearbox on the RS4 as i've not paid much interest in that car. I'd guess it's got a Tiptronic box such as the RS6 had & the new S8 has. They are available in the UK & i've seen a couple on the road. I know the Audi website in the UK has full RS4 specifications htto://www.audi.co.uk

similar thing i had a problem with the smg 10 days after my warranty expired, and bmw was kind enough to replace a couple of parts although i had to pay for the fitting, which was never reimbursed. 54?k is a steal, when the RS6 was selling in bulgaria it was 78?k stock... taxes

You didnt do that badly with the resale, although in terms of cash you probably wasted a bit more ?s than i did. What you have to consider is that , heaven forbid, if you have engine or gearbox trouble after your warranty expires, although it might sound crazy, the only viable option sometime is to crash the car and let your insurer bear the costs. Thankully i have not had to consider this as an option. Unlike the UK, insurance premiums in BG do not change depending on age or claims, its just 4.5% of the value of the car.

As for running the m3 , it was about 160? a month in petrol (its 32p here), + 3 sets of tyres for 2 years (after two were shredded by some glass on the highway) and 2 oil changes, brake reservoir oil change, and a suspension re-alignment so pretty cheap

Anyone considered a group buy of Bulgarian petrol?

I reckon it'd be quite popular!

If you have the Aluminium Cube, then you may feel it does not match as well as the original. I think with some of the wood facia options, the newer i-drive controller probably looks better. I'll wait till i get the car back & see if it grows on me.

Does anyone know if all 2006/7 models have this newer controller & if so, is Aluminium Cube still the standard facia for M-Sports cars?

Yup I do and the Aluminium Cube is standard for M-Sport model. I prefer this one. It does match my black seats and the metal matches the aluminium.

It is also easier on the knuckles or finger-tips as i tend to bang on the controller

For those who have not seen the new controller wheel, here's mine:

PS. Sorry to hear of your problems. I too went through depressing start with mine and almost handed my keys back. But I kept faith and they fixed it. Hope yours will be fixed soon.
