just got a 530d m Sport 2006 with idrive system

got a warning of very low battery

at the time was sitting in car listening to music and checking out the features - engine was not running.

system powered down on me several times (is this timed out?.....I was there for more than 1 hour)

after pressing the key in/out I was up & running again but after another 5-10 mins system powered down.

car starts fine.....checked battery voltage..not great but 12.37V.

car had been at garage for some times so battery probably has been low/very low.

would appreciate your thoughts

many thanks, Phil.

Do you have a charger? Sounds like it needs a little juice.

If this is the original battery on your '06, I would just play it safe and get a new battery.

The new generation BMWs draw a fair amount of juice from their batteries when parked. And driving alone cannot replenish a battery gone "flat". You should immediately connect your battery to a good battery charger for a day and see if your battery can be brought back to it's normal state of charge. If not, it looks like you may be needing to have it replaced.

Did the seller offer any guarantee? BMW batteries can be obtained from well stocked auto supply stores. Stealer prices can be very very high. Whatever course you take be certain the correct size and type battery is installed for your year and model. Several accessories will require initialization after power is disconnected and restored. Several posts address that.

Good luck!
