Vehicle check service in UK

Both RAC and AA offer a vehicle check service for second hand cars. They check a number of areas and give a full report allowing to make a more informed decision before buying the car. The problem is, they do not guarantee what they find e.g. they can report no faults with a particular part of the car and if there is a fault soon after buying the car in that area then there is no come back at all.
Are there any better companies in the UK that provide a guarantee?

Even if you buy through a dealer, use the AA or similar.
I bought through a dealer and only when I changed the tyres did I realise I had a split rim - big enough to need a new alloy, late enough after purchase that I could not prove it was there before - except it would have needed a new tyre if I had split it that badly...
