Every now and then I'll check the ECU for any errors while I'm programming stuff or checking other settings.
I had previously had errors related to the VANOS solenoids, which I believe mostly went away after I took them out and gave them a good cleaning in a pool of gasoline.
However, I noticed this one come up the other morning:

The errors I've had previously under the same code was "Value outside reference range". But.. a cog jump? That sounds a little troubling.
I searched around online for a while, and came up with pretty much close to nothing.
Can anyone shed some light on this message?

Heh, I saw this on the recent threads and was like "wow, someone else got the same thing!"
Then I realized it was my thread![Tongue](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/tongue.gif)
So... this happened a while back. I've been getting errors related to my VANOS solenoids for a while. I'l still pending on replacing them. I've tried cleaning them out, swapping the intake/exhaust ones, but nothing. I believe the cog jump was due to the solenoid not doing what it was supposed to at some point.
I haven't gotten any cog jump errors since that one. Still get the Camshaft Position Correlation ones though.

I wrote up a DIY for them a while back: https://5series.net/forums/topic/118...nos-solenoids/
It's really easy and is mostly just removing some screws. You don't have to take apart that much. You might have to take apart even less if your hands (and tools) are small.
I've heard lots of reports of people cleaning them out on other BMW models and having positive results. When writing the DIY, I used gasoline to clean them up. Though any kind of garage cleaning agent will work. A lot will use diesel fuel or brake fluid.
