What do you guys think of Valvoline syntech 5w-30. BMW says it's ok to use to top off. I plan on using it for my next oil change and to only run it for 7.5K before my next change. Is any one using this oil?

As turboawd points out, it is an approved oil. I used it for my last oil change, no problems so far. on sale it tends to be cheaper then all the other oils, at least here in Hawaii.

Ya, the price is a major incentive, it's on sale at Advanced for $5.00/quart!

I THINK MOBIL1 IS THE ONLY TRUE PAO BASED 100% PURE SYNTHETIC, EVERY OTHER BRAND (SAVE AMSOIL)ARE HYBRID PETROLEUM BASED WITH SOME PERCENTAGE OF SYNTHETIC FORMULA ADDED, BASICALLY A MARKETING WORD PLAY ON SYNTHETIC. STICK WITH MOBIL1 OR AMSOIL FOR BEST RESULT ! AUTOZONE HAD A SPECIAL LAST I CHECKED ON MOBIL1 U GET 6 QUARTS AND A MOBIL1 FILTER FOR AROUND $40 BUCKS, CAN'T BEAT THAT !!

The Valvoline SynPower mentioned in BMW documentation is a European formula and only available in the European market. The SynPower in the USA market is not LL-01 certify if that makes any difference to you. You can find more information about the Valvoline SynPower European formula at http://www.valvoline.be/index.asp?pa...78b&q=synpower or contact Valvoline directly. Make sure to tell the Valvoline customer service that you are in the US market.
I hope this helps.

Holly CAPS man!

I think you are mistaken.

Only certain Mobil 1 is PAO based if you get from Autozone, Walmart or regular retailer.
0w-40 Euro Formula
5w-40 Turbo Diesel Truck Oil.

Castrol:
0w-30 European Formula (German Castrol)

So if you buy any other than the above then it's hydrocrack fake oil
