I had my car in a month ago for routine service plus a couple of other issues; power steering warning light came on when first started but after the car was "warm" it would reset, the anti-trap function on the passenger window lit up every other time I raised the window, and a few episodes of rough running engine when the teperature was over 105 (traveling in Phoenix). The car is serviced and appears to run great, acceleration seems smoother, power steering issue involves a reservoir that is a bit small for the 545 and very sensitive about small changes in volume. They tell me ver 19 was installed. Then about 4 days after I got the car back I get a catalytic converter warning light followed by a constant "increased emissions" warning light. Car goes back in, and I am told there was some leaking around the valves? Now I swear I hear valve ticks when I first accelerate, especially when I am in D normal. I have never heard this before in this car. My previous muscle cars had some valve ticking (68 Mustang, 70 Chevy SS, 72 Vette) but it did not affect performance as far as I could tell. Anybody got any ideas? I am tired of driving loaner cars!

I'm not an expert in valve ticking issues but a quick search of the forums led me to some posts where people have discussed issues like this:

I'm sure there will be some other forum members that can chime in and help out...

I have 2000 mi on my 545. The engine ticks loudly when cold. The car shakes at idle with AC on. The Dynamic Brake Assist means little peddle feedback and impossible to stop smoothly. My seat clicks everytime I accelerate from stand still.

I think this car is over rated and over priced. All I get from the dealer is "everything is normal". Well I don't think it should be considered normal but I don't and can't spend all my time fighting with the service dept. This will be the last BMW I'll buy.

Be a little more optimistic. There is no such thing as a perfect car line. I would try a different dealership. I promise that you could go on any vehicle forum and find similar issues with cars costing more and less.

My previous car was a Lexus GS300. It may not handle like a BMW, but the engine was so smooth and quiet, you need to check the tach to make sure the engine is running. Maybe I was spoiled by the Japanese.

Actually, I'm spoiled by the Germans...to me, it's all about the handling...
