+1 for 545's still rocking and rolling. I frequently go out "just for the drive". Whenever the wife mentions we forgot to get something while we were out earlier I'm there with "oh, I'll go get one - na, you don't need to come (and nag me for max-speed launches all the time)" .... and I don't even have a SprintBooster

Ive owned a E36 M3, E39 540 sport wagon, E34 535, a porsche 930 Turbo slant nose, a 700 hp Grand national, 2001 vette all done up, a few WRXs, 2006 GTO 6 speed and few other decent cars, that being said my E60 545 sport with the auto stick is probably my favorite get in and drop the peddle vehicle. It goes silly quick with the ac on and three people in the car,,did I mention it looks mad classy? The frickn V8 in these cars (as you all know) is exactly the definition of refined, kick ass, sopisticated mature fun. Cant speak of the M5, Im mear mortal, rock on folks

This insane! I couldn't get my tires to spin out tonight even with DSC off or hitting the brakes and flooring it......

545i is a torque monster though!
Yeah! his car has Quaife LSD. That rocks!!!! To me it is the best MOD of all out there.
I have it on my car too. You will feel a truly M car. the torque is even doubled with the LSD.

Remember on "Top Gear" the M3 V8 outperformed the Lambo Gallardo drop-top! The is a truly amazing engine packaged inside an equally gorgeous body!
And to specifically answer your question: the 550 engine is beasty for sure. It will throw you back in the seat.

You beat me to it... The LSD makes both tires break loose, not one

However I think my wheel and tire set up is what makes the difference, I have BBS LM light weight forged wheels and non run flat tires. That takes a ton of weight off each wheel vs the OEM wheels with those black rocks that BMW calls tires (Dunlop Sport Run Flats - Hate those tires!!!). The big reduction in unsprung weight combined with the LSD really does make the car faster.

What good is having a motor with mountains of torque if you can't use it?

As you probably know, I have been shopping for a new car now that mine is 5 years old and I don't really need 4 doors. I have driven the 135 coupe, a 128 vert, an M3, a 335 coupe, and a 2003 911. I honestly can say that after driving those cars, which all were great (save the power of the 128), I got back in my car, revved the engine, dropped the clutch, and got the same old rush that just can't be beat.

When I walk out to the car in parking lots, I still stare at it.

Even though I have it for sale, I'm actually thinking I may just keep it. The only car I drove that I thought "I could trade my car for this" was the M3. I was underimpressed with the power of the 911 vs my 545.

am I nuts?
Which 911 model did you test drive?
