I have a 08 528i. Is there a way to program the car so that I can operate the garage door buttons with the engine off?

The car is turned off meaning no power. If there is a way then I would love to know how it is possible.

You can change the CKM settings in NCS to allow for 30 or 60 second operation for the windows, doors, opener etc from the time the power is turned off. I don't know how it functions normally from the factory. I'm sure it's in the owner's manual though.

I have only found the CFM settings too. Coming home it doesn't seem to be a problem. It is a minor pain to have to start my car just to open the garage door.

Agreed, my '01 Acura Integra and '01 Infiniti QX4 both open the garage door with the engine off. I thought to myself I paid $40k (used of course) for this freaking car and if I hit the start/stop button by accident, I got to turn the car back on to close the door... dumb! Unless of course I just wait to get out and go to the button on the wall.

Try this: With your foot "off" the brake pedal ... hit the start button 2x to "turn on" the electrics w/o starting the car.
I have Comfort Access and it works on my car. Just remember to give the start button one last tap when you're done to shut your car down!

+1 on the above. That will work because this is the way you program the buttons. Even without CA you can still put the key in the slot push the button twice which accomplishes the same thing without actually starting the engine.

Just hang a garage door opener remote on your visor anb don't worry about it anymore.

it's done that way so someone can't break your window and push the button to open your garage door if you leave the car outside.
