Exactly what type of ,,bad situation`` might the owner of a new 5er Series be in?

So my search for replacing my blown tire is coming to fruition. New tires range from 300-365 not including mounting. Now, heres the catch...

I have an opportunity to buy a used continental 275/30/19 from a tire shop with 9/32s tread left...new comes with 10/32s tread. The only hitch is that it has a nail patch in the middle of the tread. Does anyone have experience buying a used tire? Is the location of the patch dangerous? Should I save $200 and buy it from this guy...? What do you guys think? btw...i only need one...

Simple answer to the query - NO...

Nothing to do with the original poster, or any other particular forum member, but the possibilities for the typical 5er owner are myriad. For example: Say, you just covered your mortgage, car payment, and assorted other living expenses. Then, all of the sudden you owe your bookie big time for that Dallas/Giants game you just knew was a lock since Jessica Simpson was not there to distract Romo, the estate of Rick James comes to collect on a old drug debt you assumed would be forgiven after his untimely passing, your third baby-momma shows up with DNA results this time, that out-of-control satellite CNN keeps talking about falls on YOUR house, then you give away your favorite Brian Boitano sweater and have to spend a fortune replacing it! Now that's a "bad situation" in my book. None of us is immune.

Answer:

If you have financial constraints and cannot afford a new tire, go with the used tire. If you are just trying to save a few bucks, maybe you should be thinking about saving those few bucks on other things.

Every time you drive your car, you take a risk with your life at hand. Our modern cars make us feel invincible, but that may not be the case (especially when driving 90mph).

Your tire is the only part of your car that touches the ground. I am not sure that I would want to chance the tire to save a few bucks.

Two years from now, the extra money that you spent won't matter, but you will have felt good that you treated yourself in a first class manner rather than as a second class person not worthy of good equipment for your car.

Just my opinion.

for the patch should be OK and safe, On have 2 on my car now.

here are some tip on getting used tires.

1. What is the year on the tires when it was made?
if they are over 20 months old then dont get them not worth it.
2. how much tred have they got?
if it have 50% and 20 months then that OK
3. What brand are they?
4. How much when new?
5. check if they had any nail in them.

these are the Q that I ask my self if I would get old tires.

I just got a set of 18" 166rims and toyo tires
The Toyo tires are not good for fast driving, they are ok for normal use. I supose pay what you get.
they are about 1 year old and has 95% tred on them and the price was very nice too.

well heres another opportunity i have......a friend wants to sell a set of 20" Asanit af131 3 piece chrome rims WITH tires for $1500.
If I simply slap on that used tire in question, then swap out the rims for the Asanti's, then switch back to the original set when I turn in the lease, I wont have to worry about riding around on a repaired tire....right?

So the question is....pay $350 for new tire I wont ride on....or replace with OEM tire for $130, and buy the new set...tires on the new set are in good condition.

rip.

I wonder whether ride quality will suffer with 20" wheels. There?s very little rubber between you and the road.

I also would not put chrome anything on my car but that?s personal preference (although it?s also the preference of an overwhelming majority of BMW owners)
