Hi
Just having a problem with 1 album currently. I put my music on a USB memory stick and plug it into the car, no problems there. However, one of the albums recently refused to play (folder and track list ok, just sits at 00:00s and then moves to the next track), the other albums on the stick are fine. So I figured the data may have got corrupted. I formatted the memory stick and put the albums back on there, same problem. So, I bought a new memory stick, copied the albums on same problem... I've checked the albums and this particular one is 192kbs whereas the others appear to be 128kbs (haven't been through them all but the ones I was listening to are 128kbs). I've also realised that this problem actually co-incides with a recent replacement of the TCU and consequent software update (v29.2 apparently). I noted from the CD burning info on this site that the maximum bit rate is 192kbps which this album is and as I say, I've listened to it many times prior to the replacement TCU. Any ideas why this is happening or if anyone else is having this problem? Has 192kbps support been removed? Cheers Barry |
Can you try re-ripping the album from a CD? It does sound like there's some corruption of the file or something -- clearly 192kbs files should work...

USB memory stick?.......This is an option on all BMW's, older vehicles with updates, and minor modifations, as well?

Can I get this on my 2004 530i?

I could re-rip the album, but the files play fine on my PC, from both the hard disk where I have them stored and also from the USB keys and they were working in the car via the USB key previously too. I could also rip something else at 192kbps and see if this the reason they wont play or if something else could be causing the problem. |

Have a search round, I'm sure there are other posts about the retro fit possibilities. Cheers Barry |
I had a similar issue using an MP3 CD. The CD worked perfectly for many months thaen all of a sudden skipping, etc. Also, newly burned CD's would exhibit same issues. All of these CD's worked fine on my computer, home CD player AND the DVD navigation drive in my 550. Shutting off car and letting it sit did nothing. Finally on an inspiration I did the reboot --volume, CD eject, DVD eject and everything works fine again. The only thing that I can surmise is there is some crap left in memory. Try this and see if it works.

Looks like it might be possible to retrofit however Garry at Newport BMW said they are not in the US parts system so we would have to order them from europe. I might try to pick them up in August when I go over to the UK although the exchange rate sucks. |

Hi Rudy,

I could also rip something else at 192kbps and see if this the reason they wont play or if something else could be causing the problem. Either way, try something else at 192kbps. It'll at least prove or disprove the possibility that 192kbps file compatibility was somehow removed as you speculated to earlier... |
