USB in the LCI version

the code for the usb is: 6FL (in case no one mentioned that)
and it must be ubercool if the usb connector is located in the armrest, because that means you can hide your hdd there .
you can always use an usb extender cable to put the hdd anywhere you want...

Bmw have stated in the product information documents for both the E60 LCI and E87LCI and forthcoming E81 that it utilizes the ipod proprietary protocol and can access playlist ,artist, genre and song. This info is in 2 seperate documents published by BMWAG.

Just asked my dealer today and indeed it will be located at the back of the central console ... and that IS a really stupid place.
Now, WTF every iPod adapter loves to lock iPod control?

why buy an expensive ipod when you could buy a 160gb hdd for $150.
the 2,5" dont need an external powersource, its just powered by usb and will for sure fit in the armrest.

iPod proprietary protocol? What's that? iPod is just a disk-based device, anything can read files from it and extract song information from those files. Nothing proprietary there. iTunes is not the only software that can read and write iPod information.
