Talk about scary, I was intrigued, so went to the configurator here. Result: $88,000 for that spec of 520d here in the Netherlands.
The upside ( ) is that diesel costs only EUR 1.10/litre ($5.80/gallon) against petrol at EUR 1.50/litre ($7.90/gallon). No real ale here either

You complain check out what we have to deal with in THAILAND!!! 100,000USD++ and you only get a 525i and about 90,000USD++ we only get a 520d with absolutely no extras... about 200,000USD++ for 550, and 300,000++ for M5 You might feel better now...

Here in Oz they are a lot more than the US too. We don't have 520 nor do we have poverty spec (a good thing). All 5's here have as a min spec, auto, leather, nav, 17 inch alloys (on base model) and a few others. Seem akin to us premium pack. MSport pack is extra $4.5K. Prices and models approx:
523 (detuned 525 motor) US$78K
525 $85k
530 $95k
530d $97k
550 $130k+
M5 $210k+

Never had the pleasure. Forgot about France... stuff is always dearer there! What was the deal more than a hundred quid and 3 points?

I had been assuming that our US friends were doing rather better than us financially and were able to afford much higher specification E60 model cars. And good luck to them.
I had an idle moment so I thought I'd see what I could buy in the US for the price of the poverty spec E60 I've recently ordered in the UK.
It's scary.
My car:
520d Saloon (a sedate, economical option)
Cloth seats
Non metallic paint
Basic trim (no wood)
Xenon lights, with pointy corner effect (as an option)
Professional Sat Nav (as an option)
Upgraded amplifier and speakers (not Logic 7, and again an option)
Cost: $60,000.
For the same price in the US, you can have:
550i Saloon (a fire breathing spawn of Satan)
Leather seats
Wood trim
Bluetooth
Xenon adaptive headlights
Metallic Paint
Chromeline exterior trim
10-way power front seats with power head restraints
4-way power lumbar support for front seats
Memory system for driver?s seat, side-view mirrors, and steering wheel position
Dual center console compartments with provision for phone handset
Automatic climate control with separate left/right temperature and air distribution controls, with automatic air recirculation
2-way power glass moonroof with remote, expanded ?one-touch? operation, anti-trapping feature, and sliding interior sunshade
Power tilt and telescopic steering wheel with automatic tilt-up
Integrated 3-button Universal garage-door opener
Cost $59,275
So it seems we're not poor - we just pay too much for stuff.
Don't get me wrong, I knew there was a difference....but crickey!

2002 ?34,197 or $69,714, using today?s conversion rate (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programme...ey/3132575.stm)
Average US income
2002 $36,764 (http://www.bls.gov/cew/state2002.txt)
So US income is 52.74% of UK income ($36,764/$69,714)
550i - Base no options
UK = ?45,310 or $92,369, using today?s conversion rate
US = $58,500
Or 63.33% of UK cost
So it is actually more expensive to buy a 550i in the US
PS - Sorry I could not get more current incomes, but this was the newest UK income figure that I could find. If some one has more recent please update accordingly.

Nice try but no cigar. Your theory falls apart because you are comparing Average US income for an individual with Average UK income for a household. A household can often contain 2 (or more!) working adults.
US cars are still cheapidy cheap.
