Urgent: Need link to BMW recommendation on E60 A/T transmission ser

Hey Guys,

Can you direct me to a site where it specifically says, BMW E60 transmission (2007 530i) has a sealed unit and doesn't need transmission fluid change?

Fighting with insurance company and need the info.

Thanks

BMW transmissions DO require transmission fluid changes. I've posted the link to ZFs documentation on this forum, if you do a search it should pop up somewhere. They're due for service roughly every 50K miles.

BMW stopped using the 'lifetime' verbiage and now calls it 'long-life'. I don't know that you'll get any official documentation from BMW, but honestly I've heard more than one service writer at my local dealer tell owners to bring their cars in for valve adjustments, so there's a lot of misinformation thrown around even at the dealer level.

good luck.

Unfortunately, it's not a sealed unit, you just have to drop and replace the pan to change the fluid and filter. I've never seen anything in writing from BMW where they define what "lifetime fill" meant, but according to Mike Miller's renowned BMW maintenance schedule document, BMW later defined it as being 100K miles. As KyleB states, ZF, the manufacture, does recommend regular fluid changes to ensure you get the longest life possible from the transmission.
