Here's a stupid question for our UK brethren:

What is the difference between Business and Professional version? As far as I know we only have one version here in the states (unless someone can tell me otherwise).
I could be wrong, but Business NAV is essentially a display of turn by turn directions. There is no scrolling map with graphic icons. I'm not sure what any other differences may be.

Thanks all for the replies.

The garage that I was planning to use for the coding work has warned me that there will likely be issues with using significantly newer parts in my car.

My interpretation of what I was told is that the car will not accept the parts unless an unofficial patch is applied but that this could cause problems if/when the car is ever updated by BMW

Is this consistent with what other people understand?

That would mean US Spec cars COME with Professional? I have the 2 slots, one for CD the other for DVD (NAV maps), so this means that I have professional?

1) I have done this and the LCI nav worked in my non pre-LCI car however it was an 07 so very close to LCI models

2)I did not get any cables with the nav as I got it from ebay, I did not need any cables except for the fan cable which I still cannot find (I have been driving without the fan....probably not a good idea)

3)I did not have to change my Idrive controller, it works fine. Appartently for the LCI models they now use the Low I-Drive which is the same as the Pre-LCI without nav

4)Voice will not work, you have to get this coded at the dealer. This is some sort of licensing issues as its an option. They put a DVD in with a certain code to enable it. I have not done this.

5)If you are going to do coding, go to the dealer and get the latest software first. Then install the NAV unit, then go back and get coded again. Very expensive! I have not coded mine and it works fine however I am in the US and it sais things like Tyre and other small grammer differences which I don't care about. (Unit was from a euro LCI)

Apologies for yet another thread on this subject - I have already got most of the information I need using the search facility on this site but have a few extra questions specific to my situation...

I have a 2004 530D SE with factory fitted Business Navigation. As far as I can ascertain, no software updates have been applied leaving it on a very old Progman version.

I have been offered a Professional Navigation system by someone who is breaking a late 2007 E60 M Sport. The CCC is the updated version with the 8 buttons.

My questions are:

1) Are there any reasons why a more recent unit (LCI) won't work on my older (pre-LCI) car?

2) How much of my existing Business Nav cabling can be reused? What cables should I ask to be stripped out of the M Sport?

3) It seems that the new iDrive controller I am getting only has a menu button and not a split menu/voice button. Is this a problem as I think I have got voice control installed? (although I'd also appreciate some guidance on how to be sure on this as I've never even tried to use it)

4) Regarding the coding, do you think I should get the Program version updated before installing the new components and then get the Pro Nav coding done?

Thanks in advance for your help

Stuart

That's the one I've got. Separate windows, can view the NAV in one car info or anything else in the other. Yep, that's it.
