following the threads on here re: activating my I-Drive to play MP3's I went to the dealer and got him to upgrade my prof. Sat Nav (the one with the wide plit screen on a Media Pack car).

After burning a couple of cds I rushed to pick the car up only to find that the I-Drive says 'format not recognized'. Is there something I am missing?

The dealer scratched his head too as he said my car definitely had a 'CCC' (?) as opposed to the other thing (of which the combination of letters I forget) which cant play them, which I assume is the non Pro Sat Nav.

I am stumped as everyone on here has had the upgrade, slotted in a disc and presto it works.

Any ideas?

could it be that they upgraded the I-Drive but didnt enable the MP3 capability?

Hello,

I did progman (CIP) upgrade on my car few months back. I was unable to play MP3 before that, but after upgrade MP3 worked without any problems. Service guy told me that there is no need to "enable mp3", only software upgrade was needed.

There may be wrong settings on your cd burning software. I remember that there were instructions on this forum on how to burn mp3 discs, you can try search. Try other cd/dvd media as well. Try your burned disc in both (upper and lower slots). Remember that the upper slot is CD only, lower (where the navi disc is) accepts dvd as well.

MP3 has to be specifically enabled in the retrofit menu in progman, a software upgrade will not enable this by default. Take it back to your dealer and them to check the retrofit options in progman for this setting.

This setting will re-program the car but it only took about 10 minutes to do mine.

Despite what one dealer or service rep may say MP3 is a retrofit for older model 5ers. Refer them to this SIB.

E90, E91 (3 Series) with SA 609 CCC-Navigation vehicles produced up to 9/29/05

SITUATION
The MP3 option is not available in the audio menu. When an MP3 CD is used, it is not recognized as a valid CD.

CAUSE
The stability of earlier CCC (Car Communication Computer) software did not allow for proper MP3 functionality.

PROCEDURE

On a customer complaint basis only, retrofit MP3 functionality using Progman V20.00 or higher.

Refer to the SI B09 05 01 Coding, Individualization, Programming (CIP), for the "Retrofit" procedure.

Select "MP3" from the retrofit list and follow the on screen instructions for retrofitting MP3 capability.

The service code "KMP3" will be added to the end of the vehicle order as displayed in the Measures Plan.

After the procedure is complete, turn the ignition off and wait 5 minutes or until the driver's switch block LED goes out. Check the functionality of the system.
