I assume you don't have NAV and you are in the US, then you are one of the unlucky that ended up with "business" M-Ask unit instead of "Professional". The only way to do it is to replace your M-Ask unit and even that might not do it.

You would need to switch your CD unit (M-Ask) to the following part: 65126942520
But the reason why I say that even this might not do it, is because of the following note: ATTENTION: NOT MP3-COMPATIBLE UNTIL 03/2005. (See below)
The unit you have is probably: 65126942521

Good luck.

Can someone help me too?

Noted the dates 03/05 for mp3 compatability. I have a sept 04 530d with prof radio, cd changer and prof nav in the UK. Recently had my software upgraded due to cd player probs and rear doors not locking - upgraded 26.1.7. The dealer informs me I cannot get mp3 to play in my car without a hardware upgrade. Is this correct or do I need to push them on the matter?

Cheers

I have nav Business (professional radio) built 07/2003 and I was not able to play mp3s on CD/DVD disks, until CIP ugrade V17 (2005) which gave me the mp3 support.

Hi guys,

I'm a new E60 owner.

I heard stories of people with the business unit and mp3 support. Is this possible?

This has been much debated in Swe forums.
Unfortunatley I haven't seen any rock solid answers if it's possible or not

However, I've spoken to my local BMW electrical expert and he THINKS it is possible! He THINKS there is just a software activation. The CD module SHOULD be the same.
But, as said I'm not sure and I haven't heard of anyone having done this either.
It is very important though. If it's true then I will ditch the USB i/f - If not, I'll add it to my list of opts.

I have just orderd a facelift 523i SE which comes with the Business Radio in Ireland - I have also specified the USB Port and have an email confirmation from BMW Ireland that I do not need the Professional Radio upgrade to play MP3s via the USB. Other than the stupid location of the USB port I have no other information on how it works - so I hope I have made a good decision to ditch the 6CD changer for USB
