So 3 months ago, amid all the talk about the 535 HPFP problems, I decided on a 2008 CPO 528i with 28k versus an 08 535i with 29k. The price difference ws only $2k and the cars had all the same options (other than color). Well, my 528i is going in next week to get the exhaust lifters replaced and my friendly SA is going to let me take an 08 535i with 36K on it as my loaner (I had told him a month or so ago that I might be interested in trading up after the HPFP recall was put out)..The car has more options that my 528i and will likely be quite a bit more than the $2k difference I was offered on the 535 I looked when I purchased my 528. Namely, it has the sport, nav, and comfort access packages.

What do you guys think? If I can get a decent price for my trade and a decent price on the 535 (I'll let you know what he tells me next week on the price), should I consider it? I love my 528i, and for a 6 cyl non-turbo it does bring a smile to my face. Handles nicely and is well appointed, but I think I would LOVE having the twin turbo and sport package..

Thoughts?

Trust me, I know I will love it. Just afraid of the cost difference...I am guessing they are going to price it at $36k, and crap on me for my trade in (regardless of the fact that I just bought the car 3 months ago, I'm a nice guy and they know I am easy to work with)...

Does the 535 come standard with Xenons? I haven't installed my HID fog/halogen upgrades I bought from Brabus yet..

But it's covered by warranty for lots of years/miles right? And the original selling price of a loaded 535 was probably $12K higher than a basic 528.

10yrs/120K miles...but the time and stress spent in/out of service is not covered

They can do several thousand, at a minimum, better than that price wise in my recent experience.

$36k is more than I would spend. I spent a few thousand less than that with shipping last week on a 08 535i with 33k on the odometer. Clean carfax and every option I wanted: premium, cold, sport, etc. If it has CPO warranty that might make up for the difference, but why not save the few thousand and have one covered under warranty until sometime late 2011 and then decide if you want to buy the warranty then?
