Hi
I have 10/2004 e60. I,m a second owner. I think car has never been updated with new firmware... So I got 2 questions :
1. Can I update my nav system by my self (and if I can, how)?
2. I asked my official dealer for complete update of the car's software and they told me that it's very risky and that my cd/dvd unit can be damaged during the process and that they can't guarantee that everything is going to be fine after upgrade. Does someone know something about that?
thnx

Topic has been discussed hundreds of times before, did you try and search for it?.
.
You can update the map software by buying the latest nav disc. The cars software can only be done by the service centre, can take as long as seven hours, just had mine done and it took 12 hours.
Normal charge for a software update is around 2 - 3 hours labour and it is not risky at all, some times the Bluetooth TCU will fail the update but this is because of the state of the modules them selves not anything to do
with the update.

There is no workaround, ISTA/p will lock the module out and fail the update. The only way to proceed after this is to change the module.
