The other day, a gentleman told me that the only difference in my 06 525i(N52B25), and a 06 530i(N52B30) is software. He said that with re-coding, you can "unlock" the full potential of the engine, essentially making it a 530.

If this is true, then I would be able upgrade my motor from a:

N52B25
Type: 3.0 Liter I6 (U.S. & CA only)
Max Power: 160 kW (215 hp)
Max Torque: 250 Nm (185 lb-ft)

To a:N52B30
Type: 3.0 Liter I6
Max Power: 190 kW (255 hp)
Max Torque: 300 Nm (220 lb-ft)

with some sort of software re-programming?

Has anyone here done this? Or is it a bunch or fantasy BS?

Thank You,
Patrick

It can be done but you also need the 530 intake system.

Possible? Yes ... but it's more to it ... i.e. the intake plenum on 525 is different w/ 530 so to achieve 530 level you also need the intake plenum ... among other things.

I'm interested in pursing this, if its worth it. Sorry, but I am unfamiliar with the term "plenum"? I'm searching for it here.

Besides the difference in the air intake hardware, do you guys have any other details on the software part of it?

Intake manifold not the air box, here are the different in part number #1 between 525 & 530:
525 = http://realoem.com/b...756&hg=11&fg=40
530 = http://realoem.com/b...756&hg=11&fg=40

If I remember correctly Turner Motorsport sell (or used to) the upgrade as kit as they are maybe more parts to it.

Just the computer = http://www.turnermot...0-525i-n52.aspx
