Unknown wire connected to positive terminal
 

Hey guys, I recently bought a used E60 about a month ago and today while looking at my battery I noticed this non-oem thick red wire installed on the positive terminal on my battery. The wire says "Stinger" on it and I think it's from a company called "Scosche", was there previously an audio system installed on my car or something? The wire goes back into the trunk area but I can't follow it

yes, that is the power wire usually for the amp, the end of the wire is where the amp was mounted/placed.

Mines hidden along side the right wall behind the carpet lining to give you an idea of where the end is.

on a side note you should probably find the end of it and make sure its capped off or not exposed, as oppose to laying around with active power running through it

Yeah I should actually do that but if I want to add an amplifier in the near future will it be easier now that the wire is passed? Also I wonder if there was a full audio system in the car; speakers, woofer and amplifier or was it just an added amp?

well hopefully the person before you left all the other wires that you need you should be golden, if not your basically at square one with just a power wire.

That clear plastic housing looks like it contains an in-line fuse.
Remove the fuse from the housing and tape it to the outside of the housing (so it doesn't get misplaced) and you won't have to worry if the other end is exposed or where it terminates.

Just disconnect it from the terminal . No need to have it hooked up ,,if not in use .. Looks like they cut the red protective cover too . You might want to replace it to avoid an unintentional arch .....

First of all you should trace the wire to the end as earlier mentioned. You never know, the amp may still be mounted there and connected. Worse case is that the wire is exposed, but I seriously doubt that, but better check anyway though! If you remove the fuse or disconnect the wire from the battery before you trace out the wire and there is an amp mounted and connected somewhere, well now you don't have it if you disconnect power and possibly not have sound in car any longer. To me, the most logical explanation is there may have been a sub box in the trunk and this wire was/is the power source. Could have been a self powered sub or power by a separate amp. This is what I have and its the easiest way to get a little more bass in the car.

A little update guys, I followed the wire by crawling in the trunk and the wire is cut and wrapped up with electrical tape whatever was connected to the wire is no longer there unfortunately. Seems pretty silly, I bought it from the original owner and he didn't opt for Logic7 audio system but then decided to spend money through an aftermarket audio system. Anywho, thank you guys for the help, much appreciated!
