An ultimate breakdown machine
#1
BMW is a truly ultimate breakdown machine. I had my E3? the first M3 about 18 years ago and today's E60. Both need to visit dealer in a regular basis. I own other brands but never had anything need to repair that often.
I just had my 530 back from steering problem last week but the warning light comes back again this morning. The craziest thing is... E60 are everywhere now, it seems like more the accord or camry in my town.
my conclusion is... BMW isn't that good therefore the competitors are really suck!!

You've obviously been unlucky. And although it doesn't help you, you are in the minority!
So - can we assume from your post that you are now selling your E60? What are you going to get instead?

BMW should change their slogan to: Ultimate Driving Computers.
I miss the old days when the cars were more mechanical.
Like Clarkson said on top gear "All I want is one big red button to turn off all this electronic rubbish."

i miss my e36 m3 as well i prefer bmw alot before because this m3 was so trustfull. i mean mechanical wise. for my work i need to go away often and when i am not home i hope my wife will not have any problems with the car. all this computer stuff is to much it could be nice if just the price to repair or updating it wouldnt be so damn expensive. Also i need to drive about 70 kilometer to the nearest bmw dealer. I saw the new honda accord very nice car. but i am not a fan of the touring and audi i find it not so spacious inside. i have my e61 now for 2 weeks and i just cant find a nice way to sit i get cramp in my right leg because of the light gas pedal, my feet is to heavy. i can a get better position but then i cant reach the clutch pedal anymore quite important. and driving on cruise control is not really a option. I asked if they could change the pressure u must puton the gas pedal. but seems not to be possible. maybe built myself a metal spring thing.

hmmm... I wouldn't say it if it happens only on me. Every BMW owners I know (friends + coworkers + family) have to go back once a while to fix something. Problem levels are vary form minor to major, but to whom must have some.
The point is... we are paying a premium price for a luxury class vehicle. How can warning lights come out like Christmas trees, basic things like windows is not rolling, AC stop working, headlight malfunction and etc... too many to mention and no time for i-drive. A cheaper Jap car wouldn't give you these problems and I think BMW treat their customers like fools.
I am not kidding, these electrical/small-mechanical things are too fundamental to have problem. It should NOT be bothered at this class.

If I had problems like that, I'd sell it and buy something non BMW. The cars I've had have all been excellent, the sales staff are excellent, and the service staff (both managers and engineers) have been excellent. If I experienced anything less, I wouldn't keep the car and complain about it, I'd get rid of it

i think it's also a matter of perception. i have a '96 LR discovery that spends more time in the shop than with me.
my bimmer has been to the shop twice since 2005, so i'm happier with it than my truck.
hopefully your next car will do you better.
