Quote : "BMW is pleased to announce a new Approved Accessory for 2004, Smartnav. Smartnav is a subscription based vehicle navigation system, but is unlike any conventional type of navigation. The system is known as an off-board navigation system, where the entire computer elements are housed in one central location . "
May I ask - has anyone used this? What are your thoughts?

I also read :
"Safe Speed is a system that will beep to warn the driver that they are either approaching an area monitored by a fixed speeding camera or exceeding the speed limit in a monitored area."
How does the BMW speedsafe compare with third party add on GPS systems?

Thanks for your help!

SmartNav. Meant to be excellent, but is voice only system, no maps i.e. NO BLING . Integrates with TrafficMaster for rerouting (the blue things on poles, different to TMC network I think, can someone confirm?).

AutoExpress did a group test of 3rd party aftermarket Nav systems and this came top.

I have CIQ which is similar and made by VDO.

I have maps traffic jams etc etc etc

However. If you pay the one off fee for all time you get no updates.
If you pay annually you get the new DVD every year!

Went through to Spain on mine. Fantastic. Only paid for the days used in each country
