I use Tesco & BP and no difference in performance. I do howver get a very slight improvement in mpg when I use BP Ultimate 99 Octane, and the engine runs a tad smoother.

Never use supermarket petrol, you have no idea what/if any additives are in it.
You have paid ?40,000 for a car and want to save 2p/l on fuel?
At risk of gumming up your valves it is not worth it.
Always rated Shell and Texaco.
I understand they always supply thier own fuel to thier outlets, most others occasionally buy in from 'bulk storage' so the additive package can be compromised.

Depends what car you're driving - if it's a Vauxhall Nova, by all means use Tesco 95.
If you're driving an E60, however, use a proper branded fuel - V-Power and BP Ultimate do really seem to give a slight edge in power and economy, if used regularly - so much so that the price differential is all but negated in practice.
However, I've found that my B5 won't run smoothly on a cold start-up, when using V-Power - problem only lasts a few seconds. It didn't happen with Optimax, nor does it with BP Ultimate. Probably to do with the use of ethanol - I believe I heard somewhere that the latest software updates fix this issue on the E60, though.

Certainly Shell do not just use their own but they do have their own injection skids at the bulk terminals.
