Hi guys does anyone know the uk law for displaying number plates on the front of the car? As i got pulled over for having mine in the windscreen (clearly visable) and was told if it is not on the bumper the next time they see it they will seize the car! Just wondering if anyone knows the law or has had any previous experiences of this sort?

I am not sure myself but a guy who used to live down the road from where I am never had any front plates on his old VW scirocco. Instead he had it mounted on the left passenger visor. When he drove the car away, he would put the visor down and from the front of the car, you could see the plate (inside the car).

I have no idea if the cops took action but for a year I saw he never put front place. He has since moved away (guys renting a house so housemate turn over was high) and I can only guess that motorhead had the plates on the inside for a reason. Whats yours?

cheers

No matter how long someone got away with it, it's still wrong. Jack the Ripper was "getting away with" murders for years. I doubt his neighbours were thinking that murdering prostitutes must be legal

it does not have to be on the bumper, the law states it has to be on the nearest (near verticle) part of the car towards the front, so that (for 90% of cars) is the bumper.
my defender is legal and has the plate mounted on the air vent above the bonnet.

it would depend on your bumper shape etc.
dont forget its NOT a legal requirement to have a front number plate...its a grey area because motorcycles dont have front number plates and a case was won in the courts siting discrimination (cars/bikes) and forward facing gatso cameras...
