Thumbs up

I have religiously been filling up with BP Ultimate (BPU) diesel since I bought my car new ? it was run in on BPU and has never had a drop of normal diesel until about 2 weeks back when I was getting late for a meeting, I couldn?t make my way to BP so I filled up at my local Sainsbury?s and made my to work ? a 45 mile trip using the motorways and to my surprise this baby of mine returned 41 MPG!!!

I have never ever had returns like that using BPU ? the maximum I have ever had was 37MPG??the same roads, the same traffic conditions and the same driving style using the same trip computer to calculate ??now that made me curious and I decided to experiment ? on my next empty tank I filled up with BPU again and it dropped to the usual 32-36 mpg per journey?

Next empty tank again Sainsbury?s diesel and again 38-40 mpg ? is that weird or what! I have been paying an extra 8-9p per litre of BPU and I can?t seem to see the gains fuel economy wise, engine sound wise or even power delivery wise??

Anyone else wish to join the experiment!!???

I gave up on BPU a couple of months back and found a slightly better MPG using Texaco. Maybe 1mpg but nothing like your experience.

be interesting to see the results of say 2000 miles back to back.

Tried a couple of tanks of BPU. Not convinced. 32mpg.

Back to Sainsbury's. 37mpg.

I've been using Shell Extra diesel. I'm getting 31mpg average according to the computer. Actually worked it out properly for the last tank and it was an average of 39mpg! Odd that the computer was reset at the start of that tank and returned a wildly different figure. Anyone else had that?

I may try Sainsburys diesel, but the Shell is closer to me and a couple of pence cheaper per litre! LOL

Never rated BP Ultimate. It did nothing in my previous 330d

As a Sainsburys employee, it heartens me to hear such good reviews of the diesel we offer! I am definitely in the supermarket fuel "camp". Have tried Shell, Esso and BP's finest, but get much more joy from Sainsburys (and occasionally Morrisons)... and no, I don't get a discount!

I know of at least one member of this forum (you know who you are TC!!) who swears blind for BP Ultimate, so i am looking forward tp hearing his thoughts!

So as part of this experiment, everyone should convert to Sainsburys!!

p.s. did you also know we do a fine line in..... etc etc!!

Well there's stacking your own shelves too!

Ebay can be quite profitable.
