I have had my 530d Sport for about 5 weeks now, and in week 3 I hit a pothole Passenger side front and rear. Damaged front alloy and tyre and also the rear tyre. 2 days later the drivers side rear tyre also hit a pothole and damaged that.
I have written to my local council but have to wait upto 3 months to get anything back from them. I also have tyre insurance that covers the tyres upto £250 a tyre.
At the moment the car has continental on the front 245 35 19s and Michelins on the rear 275 30 19s. Obviously the 4th tyre front right I will need to replace myself to keep it all new.
But shall I put on all Michellins or all continentals or leave them as they were continental at the front with michelins on the rear, or is there another brand of tyres which are better.
Obviously I need to keep the cost to as near to £250 as possible as anything over im paying!

Judging by the size of the tear, nothing short of Kevlar tires are going to help you out
I hate looking like I'm some kind of slalom driver, but not having the same insurance you do, and living in the pothole capital of Canada, it's pretty much the only thing I can do to save myself and my tires

Yeah the problem is im only allowed to make 5 claims in the 3 year life of the policy. 1 tyre is one claim. and im using 3 in 5 weeks of owning the car. I feel like a cat whos lost all its lives bar 1 well or 2

Conti or Michelin are both good tyres. The is not much between them at all.
But I would use the same front and rear.
I changed my rears last summer to Pirelli P zero Rosso, I had Michelins still on the front.
The car immediately picked up a fair bit of oversteer. Last week the front were changed to Pirellis and the neutral handling returned.

I just got a pair of Continental DWS tires and I really like them. They aren't your UHP summer tire, so I didn't have any high expectations, but for a reliable all-season tire with excellent marks for wet and snow traction, there's nothing better IMHO.
If you want summer UHP tires, look at Falken FK-452 and Hankook Ventus V12 - in that order

I would put all matching tyres on your car looks alot better than mismatched axles and wont have any strange handling traits. You wont go wrong with Continental sportcontact 3, Goodyear Eagle F1 assymetrics or Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta if you want to save some money.
Heres Evos last tyre test http://www.liam27.com/stuff/EVO_TyreTest_2007_GTI.pdf.

If you are making a claim against the council, them you might want to get your tracking and camber angles checked by BMW. I think they call this a KDA check. It will ensure the pot-holes did not take out your geometry.

I've got one front tire that has a similar bulge from a pothole. A non-runflat tire would have flatted for sure, as it as a big pothole at pretty high speed on 18 inch wheels.
That said, I hate the RFTs with a passion and am in process of converting to normal tires
Just installed the spare tire and jack kit, and have the Continental DWS tires on order. Have to wait until JUNE though, as they are backordered in here in the U.S.
Good luck
