I've read a lot on this forum about run flats, mostly negative, however my experience of them has been positive. in particular their longevity. I've now travelled 36000 miles on my current set of run flats and the thread is still well proud of the tyre wear indicator. Is this unusual or typical? Personally I'm delighted with these tyres. Okay, the rears don't come under too much pressure form my 2.0 turbo diesel but i still feel 36000 with more to go is pretty good. This together with the convenience/safety they offer when punctured to my mind makes a compelling casefor RFTs.

I got 40,000 KM out of a set of a pair of Dunlop runflats. There was a ton of tread left but they cupped and got noisy. I think I could have got another 20,000 KM out of them but they would have driven me crazy. So I replace them with non-runflat Michelin PS2's that I'm quite happy with.

Cheers.

36K on RFT's is very very very good.

Most people dump them by 20K because of wear. Not too mention all the other things you read about them.

Brad,

I've got 20k miles out of mine and they still have loads of tread left, I'm expecting to get another 10-20k out of them and think that @ ?160 a tire, it's cheap motoring. I have a 530d with style '138' wheels (225, 50 R17)

30,000 Kms out of my dunlop RFTs. The rear are showing a good amount of wear, fronts are slightly better. The could last a few hundred kms more but I rather get rid of them now as the ride quality has gotten much harder.

I am seriously considering getting Pilot Sport PS2 non-RFT's to replace my OEM Potenza RFT's for about $1100 installed. Does the ride improve significantly? I notice that with the OEM RFTs theres lots of noise and you feel every bump, especially on the freeway. At moderate speeds up to 45mph the ride is alright, but going 70-80mph on a freeway without perfect smooth surfaces results in a lot of jumping and bumps.

With the Pilot Sports would you say the ride is almost as smooth as a Mercedes e-class or is it just a little improved over the OEM RFT ride? By the way I have the sports package on a 530i.

Not quite as soft as an E class, but it will feel like a totally different car with any non-RFT. The sports package suspension bottoms out easier than the E class.

My 17" original Contis have ~40K on them and still have sizeable tread left, both front and rear. However, they have become noisy over the last 10K or so. I would be replacing them in the next couple of months. Awaiting the next Michelin mail-in rebate deal from Costco. The current deal just expired.

I have the same problem with my 535d, i think I'm 10k with a Ring trip killing them off. Have you tride any other tyres, 10-12k is really poor in my eyes
